The Holborn Cocktail: The Social

We recently hosted a launch party for our latest issue in the beautiful setting of Good and Proper Tea’s Flagship Tea Bar in Clerkenwell. We were lucky enough to be joined by Square Root Soda Works and R&B Distillers who offered our guests some elegant summer cocktails.

R&B Distiller’s Borders Highland single grain whisky was paired with Square Root’s Rhubarb seasonal soda and a slice of orange. The whiskey cocktails didn’t stop there, Good and Proper Tea made up a batch of their Wild Rooibos ice tea, paired again with R&B Distiller’s whisky. You can learn how to make your own ice tea here

R&B Distiller’s roots in both the Scottish Borders and the Hebrides are physically embodied by their Co-founder, Alasdair Day. Alasdair’s great-grandfather, Allan Macdonald, hailed from the Hebrides. His other great-grandfather, Richard Day, was a whisky blender in the Border town of Coldstream with a heritage dating back to 1820.

The final cocktail our guests enjoyed used Square Root Soda Work’s Artemisia Herbal Tonic Water. The tonic was inspired by the bohemian Absinthe bars of Paris. It is made using three plants from the botanical family Artemisia; Wormwood, Tarragon and Mugwort. Add R&B Distiller’s single grain whisky and you have got yourself a deeply refreshing and complex summer cocktail.

Ingredients:

30ml R&B Distiller’s Borders Highland single grain whisky

100ml Square Root Soda Work’s Artemisia Herbal Tonic Water

1 stem fresh mint or a slice of lime (for garnish)

Method:

Add all ingredients and shake with ice. Strain into an ice-filled highball glass, top with garnish.
